Our fight is for the more than 20 women in prison due to the absolute criminalization of abortion, for the hundreds of thousands of girls who have nowhere or where to turn when, as a result of the sexist and misogynistic society, they find themselves victims of rapes who In many cases it forces them to be girls and mothers at the same time, for the girls who are no longer there, because in El Salvador suicide is the third leading cause of maternal death in adolescents who, being forced to give birth, desperately resorted to suicide as The only option, for women who want to be mothers and for those who do not, because all of us, in the event of rape or risk to our own life, can decide, freely, with options that bet on our rights to life and health.
We know this school struggle. We have the strength of women who inspire us: the strength of María Teresa who, product of a system that criminalizes women and poverty, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for an abortion that she did not commit. The strength of Manuela, who died fighting against this law that oppresses us and cruelly condemns us, the courage of Beatriz, who, fighting for her life, to live her motherhood with her little son, resisted and faced a legal system that like the media, it seemed, they had already tried her without fully knowing the details of her case.
While the rich abort, the poor bleed and the media are silent. Faced with campaigns of fear, hatred and misinformation, we respond with love, organization, with conviction and with the certainty that we must continue betting on the life and health of women.
For those who are no longer there, for those who come, for us, we invite everyone to participate in this # AcciónGlobalPorElSalvador. On June 7, 2017, women and men around the world came together to say I # Apoyo4Causales
